We are looking for a capable and enthusiastic PhD student with a keen interest in chemical biology and/or high-value forestry. They will be responsible for the chemotaxonomic assessment of Santalum spicatum populations throughout Western Australia, as well as the functional characterization of key essential oil biosynthesis genes. The student will be examining the phylogenetic origins of terpenoid production in sandalwood and explore gene transcription fluctuations in seedlings under various stimuli. The student will be experienced in undergraduate and honours-level analytical, organic and natural products chemistry, genetics, molecular biology, and plant physiology. Travel to our collaborating partners at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver Canada is incorporated into the project.

This scholarship is offered once only to one person. Open for applications until November 30, 2007.

The value of this scholarship is AUD25118 (per annum). This award is to be used for living expenses. This scholarship is paid fortnightly for the period of 3 years.

This scholarship is for one of the following fields of research: Botany, Environmental sciences or Forestry sciences. It is required that your study starts no later than March 31, 2008.This scholarship is for study in Australia for those who have achieved Honours 2a or equivalent.
