Germany. A few number of scholarships will be awarded to limited number of qualified students admitted to the RGS Econ three-year Ph.D. program in Economics. The PhD programme is offered to outstanding young and motivated researchers with an excellent academic record and a Master, Diploma or equivalent degree in economics or related fields.

The programme will be started at October 1st. The scholarships amount will be 1250 Euro per month, tax-free. Its maximum duration is three years.

General Requirement for PhD programme admission:

  • Applicants to the Ph.D. program should hold an excellent academic record and should have graduated with a Master, Diploma or equivalent degree in economics or related fields.
  • A strong background in quantitative methods is necessary for a successful application. This background has to be proven by course work in mathematics and statistics.
  • If you do not possess a German university Diplom then your Master’s degree must be such that it can be regarded as equivalent to a German Diplom. This requires a written thesis, written or oral final examinations, and at least two years of advanced course work.
  • Chinese applicants can only be considered if their Master’s degree has been approved by the DAAD in Beijing.
  • Foreign students with degrees that are not considered equivalent to a German Diplom are not admissible to the RGS Econ. The RGS Econ does not accept applications from students who only have a Bachelor’s degree.
  • For Applicants without a German “Abitur” a GRE test score (general test format) would be very helpful. Typically we expect candidates to score in the top 10 per cent in the quantitative and analytical sections of the test. For details please see www.gre.org.
  • All courses, lectures and seminars of the RGS Econ are held in English. Therefore, a “Test of English as a Foreign Language” (TOEFL) with excellent results is highly recommended for all applicants except those who
    • are native English speakers
    • can prove at least six months of studies at an English-spoken university
    • possess a German “Abitur”
