UK. A PhD studentships are currently available in an EPSRC funded project within the Department of Chemistry. Salary would be £12,600 pa (rising to £12,940 pa from 1 October).
This project will involve the design, synthesis and evaluation of inorganic nanoparticles for drug and gene delivery. Skills acquired will include covalent biomolecule functionalisation of inorganic nanoparticles, transmission and scanning electron microscopy, assays for drug and gene release and evaluation of the magnetic and porous properties of these materials.
The successful candidate will work in a group of over 20 postdoctoral and PhD scientists.
This EPSRC-funded project will be supervised by Professor M J Rosseinsky (www.liv.ac.uk/chemistrywww/Staff/rosseinsky.html). The project is open to all EU citizens and the stipend is at the standard EPSRC rate. Candidates will have at least an upper second class honours degree in chemistry, physics, life sciences or materials science.
