Research at QMU
Queen Margaret University awards two higher degrees by research, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Philosophy (MPhil). Research methods training is offered in the first semester but after that there are no taught elements as such - students are expected to manage their own research project, with guidance from a supervisor. Bursaries cover all tuition fees and provide help with living costs for three years (the prescribed period of study for a PhD).
Bursaries are only available for PhD study based at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh.
To be eligible for a bursary, the following criteria must apply:
- The applicant meets the standard entry criteria for research degrees.
- The research proposal is in one of the topic areas specified below
- Applicants may apply to study on a part-time or full-time basis, but they must be willing to be resident within reach of Edinburgh.
- Applicants must be willing to study for a full PhD, not an MPhil.
